Policies and TYM Class Etiquette
- You must be in a state of "good" or "normal" health to learn Thai massage. At least three months of weekly yoga practice is recommended before learning Thai Massage. It is strongly recommended that you schedule a Thai yoga massage with Anthony before enrollment to meet the instructor, receive the moves you will be learning and resolve any questions you may have about the training.
- A $100 deposit is REQUIRED before the course so the instructor knows how many students to prepare for. The balance of the course tuition minus the $100 deposit is required on the first day of the course. Cash, credit card, or personal check are all acceptable means of payment. We do not accept on-line forms of payment, Venmo or PayPal etc.
- You are not required to be an LMT to study Thai yoga massage but familiarity with basic anatomy and core yoga practices is obviously helpful. You are required to follow all local laws regarding Thai massage according to the jurisdiction of where you practice. In the state of Ohio only licensed medical massage therapists can perform medical massage. Under no circumstances shall a Thai yoga massage practitioner who is not an LMT identify themselves as such. Thai yoga massage certification does not qualify a practitioner to diagnose or treat any mental or physical health condition.
- Students are required to be on time, well rested, fully alert and ready to participate and learn.
- Our course of study includes some Hatha yoga posture practice (asana), meditation and chanting of the traditional Thai Theravadin Buddhist Wai Khru in the Pali language honoring Jivaka Bacha Kumar the founder of Thai massage. You are asked to participate in this practice even if you are a Christian or have no interest in Buddhism. We teach traditional Thai massage. Chanting the Wai Khru is traditional. You are asked to listen to our recitation of the Wai Khru respectfully if choose not to chant it out-loud. You are asked to participate in yoga stretching and metta meditation on loving kindness as part of our curriculum. If changing Buddhist prayers is in conflict with your religious beliefs please pray or meditate on Jesus, compassion, loving kindness or whatever is in alignment with your religion. We do not teach Buddhism, but we do ask you to respect and honor traditional Thai practices in a spirit of non-appropriation.
- Students are strongly encouraged to volunteer as course assistants after completion of any course. This means after you complete a course you take the course again acting as a model and facilitator for any course you have completed. Course assistants are not paid, however this is the equivalent of taking the course again at no cost. It is our experience that the best TYM practitioners assist multiple times.
- There will be a $25 administrative fee for replacement or additional copies of your Practitioner's Certificate.
- Certification is awarded after completion of Traditional Thai Yoga Massage Level 3 (90 NCBTMB approved provider instructor contact hrs.) and 30 documented practice sessions. An additional 10 NCBTMB hrs. are added for students who complete all three Supervisions.
- Traditional Thai Yoga Massage Certification is awarded after completion of Level 1-3 of the 5- courses. No certification is offered for Thai Yoga massage on a Table students however NCBTMB documentation is available upon request for students to learn Thai massage on a table.
- Documentation of NCBTMB hrs. is provided by request for any course of study.
- Each Thai Yoga Massage on a Table course is worth 12 NCBTMB hrs. Table Thai courses (Three levels = 36 hrs.).
- Completion of a course (NCBTMB documentation) is not the same thing as Certification. (Don't say you are a Certified TYM Practitioner if you have not completed Level 3 and documented practice of 30 massages).
- No payment plans, discounted tuition, or financial aid is offered (exceptions may apply pending review).
- Each course has a $100 non-refundable deposit required to reserve your space.
- Full tuition is due on the first day of any course. Full tuition means the course fee minus the deposit you already paid to register.
- Your space is reserved and guaranteed with upon receipt of your $150 deposit for all courses.
- Your $100 deposit guarantees your place in a class. Courses with only one student registered (you sent a deposit) may be rescheduled to fit the instructors schedules and you may be offered private instruction at no additional cost.
- Students who do not complete their course of study may be offered a 50% pro-rated refund. This means that you may be refunded 50% of the tuition for classes that you did not attend, if you drop out, or are asked to leave depending upon circumstances. No refund will be offered for classes you have attended.
- Students requesting a refund must do so before the course ends. You will not be refunded for classes you attended.
- Students are requested to participate fully. Simply observe if you are not feeling well.
- Students are requested to dress appropriately (sleeveless shirts and short shorts that might reveal private body parts are not recommended). Yoga attire is perfect.
- Please behave respectfully towards class mates, course assistants, models and the teacher!
- Photographing and video taping a class is not allowed without the instructor's permission, but you ask the instructor to slow down so that you can take notes.
- Student's invited to assisting in Thai yoga massage courses will not be paid, however this is an excellent way to review the course material and essentially to take the course again as a model (not a student!) at no cost.
- Students re-take any course they have taken already at 50% full tuition.
- The optional Traditional Thai Massage manual is not included in your tuition unless you register and pay for all 3 Levels on the first day of Level 1. The 200 page manual is for sale for $50.
